Meet the author
Helen Hollick.
Helen Hollick writes the history they didn't teach you - the women, the rogues and the kings the chronicles half-forgot.
She is the author of the swashbuckling Sea Witch Voyages, the Arthurian Pendragon's Banner Trilogy, the Saxon Era novels of Emma of Normandy and Harold Godwineson, and the cosy 1970s Jan Christopher mysteries. Her non-fiction explores the true history behind the stories - pirates, smugglers and ghosts.
She lives in North Devon, and writes from a seventeenth-century farmhouse with her family, her horses, and the occasional companionable ghost.
This biography is a working draft - we'll expand it with Helen's full story, photographs and press.
In memory & with thanks
For many years, Helen's website was created and lovingly maintained by her webmaster and friend Mal Phillips - Mallory L. Phillips (1952-2025). His craft and care shaped Helen's presence online for well over a decade.
Mal's original site is preserved as an archive at foundation.helenhollick.net, and remains online in his memory, with gratitude.
